Whoa, what a week. I had a personal emergency last week and had to take some time away to be with my family. I’m happy to report that all is well now and we are slowly trying to get back to our daily routines, which for me, means a new blog post for you!

I wanted to share my favorite hair & makeup look from my sister’s wedding a few weeks ago. (You can see the wedding featured in The New York Times here!) On the first day of the wedding, I surprised my sister with appointments at the famous Blast Blow Dry in Austin, TX for hair & makeup. I turned to you guys on Instagram for suggestions and one awesome doll sent me a photo of this crown braid and I knew I needed to have it.  The ladies there were so sweet and incredibly talented. My sister, Salimah wanted a teased fishtail braid and I, of course, wanted a messy braided updo – it couldn’t have turned out more perfect. I’m always nervous to get my hair & makeup done somewhere else, I don’t know if it’s something about my skin tone or the texture of my hair – but I hate feeling like my color doesn’t match or my hair doesn’t stay. No worries of that here! It actually broke my heart to take out all the bobby pins that night.

I seriously need to figure out how to do the braided crown, anyone have any tips? Maybe I needed to head to the hair gurus on YouTube or have Crystal from Blast give me a tutorial! Next time you are in Austin make sure you visit Blast Blow Dry  for a glam session for a wedding, girl’s night out, bachelorette, or just a Tuesday!
